Asian Studies Days 2016 “Religion and Politics in Asian Societies” -Photos and Presentation Videos
The sixth Asian Studies Days were held in Jyväskylä on 25th and 26th of August, with the theme “Religion and Politics in Asian Societies”.
Throughout the world both religious beliefs and nationalistic ideas are being expressed strongly, and often in conjunction. In addition to widely observed and discussed Muslim and Christian activities in politics around the globe, Hinduism in India, Confucianism in China, Buddhism in Myanmar, Shinto in Japan, and Kimism in North Korea, to name a few, are platforms for amalgamation of traditional religions with nationalism. The phenomenon is intriguing as the process often displays also clear anti-globalization, anti-foreign and anti-intellectual elements. Contemplating this phenomenon in Asia is the theme of the conference in Jyväskylä.
