How to apply?

1. Students of Asia Network’s member universities

Fill in the application form. Students who are actively enrolled in a member university of the Asia Network can take the courses free of charge. This includes both degree students and exchange students.

The members of the Finnish University Network for Asian Studies are:

  • University of Turku
  • University of Jyväskylä
  • Tampere University

Students from the following universities of applied sciences can also take part in Asianet courses free of charge because of local bilateral institutional agreements.

Tampere University of Applied Sciences (through the agreement with Tampere University)
JAMK University of Applied Sciences (through the agreement with University of Jyväskylä)

a) As an external self-paying student of the Asia Network (University of Turku).

You can apply for the courses as an external self-paying student by paying a fee of 250 euros for the minor study right (up to 25 ECTS). After successful completion of courses, you will receive study credits. To do this, you must first fill the Asia Network application form and the application form for UTU non-degree studies. Once you have received the acceptance letter, pay the study fee before the courses start in order to receive the registration codes for the courses.

For Master’s level courses, sufficient background knowledge of the course subjects is required. Self-paid students must demonstrate that they have the necessary background knowledge, either through studies or work experience.

b) Through Open University at the University of Turku

Some courses arranged by the Center for East Asian Studies can be taken via the Open University. The Open University has its own, separate application process, criteria and fees. For more information, please visit these pages:

c) Free open MOOC-courses

The 3 credit part of the Bachelor’s level MOOC-courses are open and free of charge for everyone. Course areas can be accessed during the course period via DigiCampus platform by logging into the course with your Google or HAKA account. Independently enrolled students will receive a certificate from the DigiCampus platform after completing the course, but they will NOT receive credits.

Decisions

Once your application has been processed, you will receive a message about the decision. This will come a few weeks after the application period has ended. If you are accepted to the course, you will receive a welcoming email on the first day of each course, and gain access to the course site in the Moodle. The welcome email comes to the address you have given in the application form. It may go to the spam or offers-folder of your email (at least gmail tends to do it), so check those folders too.

Before applying to a course, please check with your own institution whether you can include the course in your degree.
